Recycled Water Fill Stations

For more details, please call (925)625-2279

Ironhouse Sanitary District has proudly offered recycled water to the community since opening its Residential and Commercial Recycled Water Fill Stations in June 2015.

Why Recycled Water Matters

Water is one of California’s most precious natural resources. By using recycled water for non‑drinking purposes such as landscape irrigation, we help conserve our limited drinking water supply. Ironhouse Sanitary District (ISD) produces high‑quality recycled water that supports our community, reduces demand on potable water, and provides a drought‑resistant water source for ISD ratepayers.

Residential Recycled Water Fill Station

ISD offers free recycled water to ISD ratepayers in Oakley and Bethel Island for outdoor, non‑potable uses. This program helps keep trees, gardens, and landscapes healthy while saving drinking water and reducing water bills.

Approved Uses for Recycled Water

Recycled water may be safely used for:

  • Watering trees
  • Gardens and vegetables
  • Lawn irrigation
  • Washing cars
  • Cleaning outdoor furniture
  • Washing hard surfaces such as paths, walls, and windows
Important Safety Note:

Use drinking water to wash all fruits, vegetables, or other edible plants that have been watered with recycled water.

Recycled Water Is Not Suitable For
  • Drinking
  • Cooking or kitchen use
  • Bathing or showering
  • Filling swimming pools or spas
  • Children’s water toys
  • Connecting to household plumbing systems

How to Sign Up

To begin using the Residential Recycled Water Fill Station, ISD ratepayers must complete a brief sign‑up process each season before using the station.

1. Complete the Residential Recycled Water Fill Station Agreement

A new agreement must be filled out every season. You may complete it in advance or fill it out at your training appointment.

2. Attend a short training session

This training covers safe handling, proper use, and program rules.

To schedule training, call (925) 625‑7924.

Residential Recycled Water Agreement

After completing training, you will receive a unique user identification number, which must be used each time you pick up recycled water.

ISD Non‑Ratepayers

ISD non‑ratepayers may participate by purchasing a $35 seasonal permit.

This fee covers the entire recycled water season and allows unlimited daily fills.

How We Recycle Water

Ironhouse Sanitary District produces recycled water through a straightforward, multi‑step treatment process. Wastewater from homes and businesses flows to our Water Recycling Facility, where debris is removed and the water is cleaned by beneficial bacteria. It then passes through our advanced Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) system, which filters out very small particles and bacteria. Finally, the water is disinfected to remove any remaining germs. This process creates clean, high‑quality recycled water that is safely reused at the plant and provided to ISD ratepayers through the Residential Recycled Water Fill Station.

Ensuring Water Quality

ISD’s recycled water meets all state and regional water quality standards. Our treatment process includes advanced membrane filtration, disinfection, continuous monitoring, and regular laboratory testing to ensure the recycled water remains safe for all approved non‑potable uses.

Sign‑In Process
